RAC Satnav running Route 66 - Download and Install POI

You will require a PC running Windows with Microsoft ActiveSync. Most versions of Windows now include ActiveSync but it can be downloaded from Microsoft.

1. Two files are required and both are contained in a single WinZip self-extracting file. Download the following self-extracting file to your PC:-

(Latest update on 1st March 2010)

2. Your browser may automatically start the extraction process, in which case, select Run and follow the prompts.  Alternatively if the extraction process does not start automatically, double click on the downloaded file to start the WinZip extraction process.

As part of the extraction process, WinZip will ask you to specify a folder to which the files should be extracted, please specify an empty folder on your PC.

Both files have the same name JET but one has the extension .csv and the other .bmp. (Please do not attempt to open and save these files with any application such as Microsoft Excel as this may corrupt them).

3. Turn on your RAC satnav.

4.  Connect your RAC satnav to your PC using a USB cable.  Windows should automatically detect your RAC satnav and Windows ActiveSynch should start automatically.  Please allow approximately one minute for this process to take place.

5. You can explore the folders on your RAC satnav using either ActiveSynch or Windows Explorer. Windows explorer calls the satnav a mobile device and treats it like an external drive.

6. Using Windows Explorer on your PC, find the POI folder on your RAC satnav's SD card which is accessible via the USB connection.  On the RAC200 for example, the folder is SDMMC\POIS\Britain but this may vary depending on which maps you have bought.  The POI folder should contain files with .csv and .bmp extensions.  These are the standard Route 66 POI files, please do not delete or alter any of these existing files.

7. Copy and paste both JET files into the POI folder on your RAC satnav.  The file transfer process should take less than a minute.

8. Use Windows Explorer to check that the two JET files are now in the previously identified POI folder on your RAC satnav.

9. Disconnect your RAC satnav from your PC

10. Use the master On/Off switch on your RAC satnav to power it completely off and on again and then give it time  to reacquire the satellites. This is necessary as the RAC satnav only appears to load new POIs when it is powered on from cold. Just using the power button to put the device into sleep mode does not appear to be sufficient to achieve this.

11 The JET site points of interest are now ready for selection and navigation.
