TomTom - Download and Install POI

1. Two files are required and both are contained in a single WinZip self-extracting file. Download the following self-extracting file to your PC:-

(Latest update on 1st August 2008)

2. Your browser may automatically start the extraction process, in which case, select Run and follow the prompts.  Alternatively if the extraction process does not start automatically, double click on the downloaded file to start the WinZip extraction process.

As part of the extraction process, WinZip will ask you to specify a folder to which the files should be extracted, please specify an empty folder on your PC.

Both files have the same name but one has the extension .ov2 and the other .bmp. (Please do not attempt to open and save these files with any application such as Microsoft Excel as this may corrupt them).

3. Turn on your TomTom and make sure the battery is fully charged or the device is connected to a charger to avoid any unexpected loss of power during the file transfer process.

4.  Connect your TomTom to your PC using a USB cable.  Windows will automatically detect your TomTom.  Please allow approximately one minute for this process to take place.

5. Windows may ask you which application you wish to use for this USB connection.  Select Open a folder, which will show you the files and folders in the root directory on your Tomtom.  Alternatively, Windows will allocate a new drive letter to your TomTom device which can be opened with Windows Explorer on your PC.

6. Using Windows Explorer on your PC, find the map folder in the main directory of your TomTom.  The map folder will have a name such as Western_Europe_Map or UK_Map. Open this folder, which should already contain files, probably with .dat extensions.

7. Copy and paste both files into the map folder on your TomTom.  The file transfer process should take less than a minute during which time the screen on your TomTom will probably display a warning not to disconnect the USB cable.

8. Use Windows Explorer to check that the two files are now in the map folder on your TomTom.

9. Disconnect your TomTom from your PC

10. Restart your TomTom to enable it to detect these new POI

The points of interest are now ready for selection and navigation.
