1. Install the Garmin USB drivers supplied on CD with your Garmin device.

2. Download the Garmin POI Loader application and install it on your computer. Garmin offer both PC and Mac versions.

3.Two files are required and both are contained in a single WinZip self-extracting file. Download the following self-extracting file to your PC:-
 

• JET POI

(Latest update on 3rd November 2008)

4. Your browser may automatically start the extraction process, in which case, select Run and follow the prompts.  Alternatively if the extraction process does not start automatically, double click on the downloaded file to start the WinZip extraction process.

Both files have the same name but one has the extension .csv and the other .bmp. (Please do not attempt to open and save these files with any application such as Microsoft Excel as this may corrupt them).

5. Turn on your Garmin and make sure the battery is charged or it is connected to a charger to avoid any unexpected loss of power during the file transfer process.

6.  Connect your Garmin device to your PC using a USB cable.  Windows will automatically detect your Garmin.  Please allow approximately one minute for this process to take place.

7. Start the Garmin POI Loader application and click on “Find Device”. Your Garmin model should appear in the drop down list. Click Next.

8. Select the directory where you stored the two POI file to transfer the file to you Garmin. Allow at least one minute for this to complete.  The Garmin application will install all the custom POI in the selected folder.

 The points of interest are now ready for selection and navigation. 

How do I use these POI on my Garmin?
They can typically be found in for example, Custom Points of Interest.

How do I update the POI files on my Garmin?
Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.

How do I uninstall these custom points of interest?
Version 2.4.2 of POI Loader and above supports an option to delete all the custom points of interest from your device.  If you have no other custom points of interest you can simply use this option.

If you do have other custom points of interest which you wish to retain then delete the JET files from your POI folder on your PC and use POI Loader to reinstall the other custom POI files which you wish to retain.

Can I install other points of interest files?
Yes, you can install other pairs of points of interest files from other sources in the same way, and your Garmin device will keep them separate. Please note that the Garmin POI installer deletes any existing custom POI which are no longer in the folder on your PC.

How many POI can my Garmin device support?
This varies according to the device and the amount of detail in each POI file, however Garmin say at least 3000.
